Halloween at CuliNex - It's Scary Good

Posted October 28, 2016 in Blog

Happy Halloween from the CuliNex Team! Curious to how we really feel about candy corn, pumpkin spice, and fall traditions? We have strong feelings about the season, naturally.

Chocolate, Sweet, or Sour?

  • It’s a hard toss-up between Twix and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, but really anything with chocolate will do! –Emily

  • Anything sour and brightly colored. – Hayley

  • Fun size Almond Joy Bars. Yes. I usually feel like a nut. – Anne-marie

  • Kit Kats! Gimme a break, gimme a break… – Hannah

  • The Halloween themed Reese Peanut Butter Cups because they have more peanut-butter in the middle compared to traditional ones! – Katie

  • Gummy bears. I love all gummy candies, but those little mini packets of gummy bears are irresistible! – Lesley

  • Skull & Bones interactive candy – Webb

  • Those little mini Reese’s peanut butter cups – Mark

Candy Corn - Yay or Nay?

  • Love! Especially home made with real vanilla. – Anne-marie

  • It’s neither candy nor corn. – Webb

  • I feel the same way about candy corn as I do about beets—pretty to look at, but they taste like dirt. –Emily

  • I can eat 3, then I gag – Mark

  • I usually save my teeth and taste buds for something tastier, but my Dad makes a surprisingly snackable “succotash” by mixing candy corn and salted peanuts! - Lesley

  • I ate too much of it in the 7th grade and there’s no going back. – Hayley

  • Should I feel shameful that I’m one of those people that love candy corn? I usually eat them in two bites, just because I like the texture of them! – Hannah

  • Nope not a fan, they were always the first thing I traded with my siblings for better candy! - Katie

Trick or Treat – What was your best Halloween costume?

  • Can’t say that I have worn one since 4th grade – Webb

  • One time I wore a tux and carried a tray all night full of those little airline liquor bottles. The tray had a strap attached to it that went around my neck. I called myself a mini-bar. I was very popular. – Mark

  • My best Halloween costume was the year I went as a doughnut. Because, everyone loves a pink doughnut with sprinkles! – Emily

  • I was the black swan in college, it was a great excuse to wear a tutu to the bars. – Hayley

  • Hmmm...I'm sure there have been many cool ones, but the one that comes to mind immediately is from my childhood. The year the first Star Wars movie came out, my mom, who is a great seamstress made me a Princess Leia costume and my brother went as Luke Skywalker. I don't think our younger sister played along and went as something out of the Star Wars genre, but there's a photo of the three of us somewhere looking awfully cute. – Anne-marie

  • Freshman year of college, I went as Raphael, the red Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. My turtle shell was a green plastic mixing bowl from Wal-Mart. It was great! – Hannah

  • My mom dressed my sister and I in these thick handmade dinosaur outfits to make sure we stayed warm the night of trick or treating. – Katie

  • Rosie the Riveter -Lesley

Best fall tradition?

  • I'm not sure if it's a tradition, but breaking out my Dutch oven and getting back to braises, soups and stews when the weather gets colder is up there on my list. It's a soul satisfying (and inexpensive) way to cook.  -Anne-marie

  • Drinking Apple Cider, seeing the leaves change colors, and pulling out all my scarves and boots. -Katie

  • Pressing fresh cider and picking apples with the family – Webb

  • I love getting my hands messy, and what's a better way to ring in the fall season than scooping out slimy pumpkin guts and wielding sharp knives at the same time?! Pumpkin carving is definitely something I look forward to every fall. – Emily

  • Spiced Apple Cider and fireplaces! A little rum doesn’t hurt. – Mark

  • Anything that involves me wearing a flannel and boots. –Hayley

  • I love apple (and pear!) picking and I miss the apple cider donuts I used to get in New England. - Lesley

  • My favorite fall tradition is biking around Lake Bemidji and looking at all of the fall colors! And pumpkin pie of course, mmmm. – Hannah

Pumpkin Spice Everything Fanatic?

  • I may be partially responsible for that one. I was at Starbucks when we came up with the pumpkin scone in 2002. The Pumpkin Spiced Latte followed two years later. Over the next 5 years it became a “thing”. – Mark

  • I do love some pumpkin spice things, but it has gone too far! Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Twinkies, really? -Katie

  • The horror needs to stop. – Webb

  • #PSL is life. – Emily

  • The more the merrier! – Hayley

  • I’m half-heartedly on the bandwagon. I love me a good pumpkin pie blizzard, but it’s overdone! – Hannah

  • The moment I saw pumpkin spice potato chips; I knew we'd gone too far. Everything in moderation people! – Anne-marie

  • I think it’s time to move on. -Lesley
